Villanova to play DII Nyack College in 2014

According to Division II Nyack College's twitter account, the Warriors are scheduled to play an exhibition at Villanova.

Nobody would accuse Jay Wright of not taking care of his own. When a former Wright assistant (or boss) has found himself in charge of a basketball program elsewhere in the country, they have usually found their way onto Villanova's schedule. The level of that program doesn't seem to matter, either.

According to their Twitter account, Nyack College men's hoops is another beneficiary of Wright's network:

Nyack's head coach is Jason Crafton, who served as the Wildcats' Administrative Assistant / Video Coordinator until 2005, when he followed Billy Lange to Navy. After four years as Lange's assistant, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Navy -- being named one of the Top 50 Mid-Major Assistant Coaches in a 2011 edition of Basketball Times/Hoop Scoop.

The game could be the Wildcat's annual pre-season exhibition game -- this year they played Canada's Carleton University -- or it could be a regular season game like the one that this season's 'Cats played against University of the District of Columbia. Wright's program has tended not to schedule non-Division-I schools as regular season games, with two notable exceptions -- a 2006-07 game with NAIA Northwood (scheduled as a favor to Wright's mentor, Rollie Massimino), and the 2012-13 game against UDC that was given to the Wildcats by 2K Sports Classic organizers.

Either way, it appears set on Villanova's schedule.

As a rule, Villanova will not speak on any future schedules until after the full schedule for that season is released. That usually comes just months before the academic year of that season begins.

Updated 3:00pm - Nyack head coach Jason Crafton has confirmed to VUhoops that the contest will be an exhibition game at the start of the 2014-15 season and will likely be held the week before the official NCAA basketball season starts.
