The Sun's Arizin: Villanova Wildcats news and links for April 3rd, 2013

Today featuring the sad story of Jimmy Pitts, the pyschopath that is Mike Rice, and two 'Cats going into the HOF.

As I type this, I'm sitting on a flight from Atlanta to New York (see ya, Brian!) enjoying an ice-cold adult beverage. Life could be worse. You could be a maniac coach in New Jersey who is about to lose his job (and might find it very hard to work in basketball again).

On to the links!

Two Montclair men plead not guilty to charges connected to fatal shooting of Villanova student - NorthJersey.com
Yes, the same Jimmy Pitts who was a starting CB on last season's football team. Yes, he's charged with robbery and narcotics offenses, while another man involved was charged with murder of a Villanova student. Yikes.

Practice video shows Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice berated, pushed and used slurs against players - ESPN
Really the only downside here is that there's likely no way that Mike Rice keeps his job under such intense media scrutiny. Perhaps Pernetti feels some heat too over his apparent under-handling of the issue. Brian had a good suggestion though: Bobby Gonzalez for Rutgers!

Yeah, so you know it's bad when the Rutgers fanbase is already distancing themselves from the coach. Hey Big Ten, have fun!

Rutgers president and AD need to go - ESPN New York
Ian O'Connor takes a hard-line stance to the Mike Rice situation: fire everyone. Fire Rice, fire athletic director Tim Pernetti, and can the University's president, Robert Barchi as well. How many heads should roll?

It looks like at least one of them will be fired today:

Kentucky's record 6 McDonald's All-Americans help ease the sting of 2012-13 - SBNation.com
Side note: How far did y'all have Kentucky going in your brackets this year? In reality though, this class should be illegal. I wonder how the sophomores and juniors who weren't one-and-done guys feeling about riding the pine next season. No wonder Archie Goodwin bolted after saying he wasn't ready for the NBA.

Massimino and Raveling to be Inducted into Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame - Villanova University Official Athletic Site
We covered Rollie's induction to The Hall in yesterday's Arizin post, but shame on me again, I forgot to include George Raveling. You know what, eff it. Shame on ChillCat for only linking me to Rollie!
