Villanova Baseball's junior right-handed pitcher Pat Young and senior shortstop Tyler Sciacca were each selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft over the weekend.
Young was selected in the 13th round by the San Francisco Giants. He as the 402nd overall pick. appeared in 42 games with 34 starts for Villanova, logging 208 2/3 innings pitched with 166 strikeouts. This season, he had a a 4.74 ERA and led the Wildcats this season with 76 strikeouts in 82.3 innings pitched.
The Chicago Cubs selected Sciacca in the 27th round as the 798th overall pick in this year's draft. Sciacca batted .307 with a .405 on-base percentage and a .466 slugging percentage; leading the team in each of those categories.
According to the Athletic Department, they are the 64th and 65th draft picks from the Wildcats since the inception of the draft in 1965.
Three former Villanovans remain active in Minor League Baseball; Matt Szczur (Chicago Cubs), Kyle Helisek (St. Louis Cardinals), and Kyle McMyne (Cincinnati Reds).
