In somewhat of a shock, Philadelphia, PA guard Ja'Quan Newton has trimmed his list to a final six schools, and the Villanova Wildcats did not make the cut.
2014 PG Ja'Quan Newton has cut his list to UCLA, Oregon, Syracuse, Minnesota, Miami and Texas A&M

Newton previously announced he was cutting his list to five after the July live period, and had previously spoken highly of local favorites Villanova. However, with yesterday's announcement of Phil Booth verbally committing to Villanova, it looks as if that may have been a determining factor in the Newton sweepstakes.
Also of note, was this quote from Booth to Adam Zagoria.
"It looks like they’re all set from my class," Booth said.
Clearly, Booth was told something as to the remaining strategy for 2014. Does he mean done recruiting the backcourt? Done recruiting in general? The former seems much more likely what with Jay Wright still holding 2 available scholarships with Booth and Mikal Bridges as commitments.
If you believe the Wildcats are done recruiting, you might be correct. Jay Wright only carried 11 scholarship players last season, and as things stands with the two commitments, we're at 11 scholarships for next season (assuming no transfers or NBA early entries). What reasons could Jay Wright have for not using his full allotment of scholarships?
