Villanova Basketball Recruiting 2015 Big Board: August 2013 Edition

Your monthly update on the 2015 recruiting efforts for Villanova basketball.

USA TODAY Sports

Quick reminder: the 2014 board will occur on the first weekday of the month, and the 2015 board will be posted on roughly the 15th of the month. We're moving to monthly editions because we're going to be posting more articles as news occurs.

Villanova opened the books for 2015 on June 19th with the commitment of forward Tim Delaney. Delaney plays his basketball for WE-R-1, the same team as elite prospect Derrick Jones. Blind faith and full speed ahead, my friends!

Also thanks to Mike, we've got a nice graphic of the roster outlook, so you can get a good feel for how the next few years will play out. Due to the recent news that Mislav Brzoja is transferring to Evansville, Villanova has an extra scholarship available.

Point Guards

Ryan Arcidiacono and Dylan Ennis will have 1 year of eligibility remaining when this class is on campus, but Phil Booth committed to Villanova at the end of July. It would be nice to bring in at least one ball handler.

Levan "Shawn" Alston

Haverford, PA

(Haverford School & Team Final)

6'3", 170 lbs.
  • Temple
  • St. Joseph's (PA)
  • La Salle
  • Penn State
  • Rhode Island

Up_arrow_medium

Alston took an unofficial visit to 'Nova in early June, but 'Nova has yet to offer like some of the other local schools. Jay Wright may be waiting to see how 2014 plays out first. Alston's father played at Temple, but he has insisted that won't give them an edge.

Isaiah Briscoe

Newark, NJ

(Roselle Catholic & NJ Playaz)

6'4", 205 lbs.
  • Arizona
  • Syracuse
  • Indiana
  • Florida

down_arrow_medium

Briscoe picked up a 'Nova offer in September, and even though he attended Hoops Mania last year, is probably out of Jay Wright's range. Arizona is thought to be leading due to Briscoe's multiple visits to Tuscon.

Shooting Guards

A big need in the backcourt is for a shooter, even with Phil Booth's commitment. There are some attractive options for Jay Wright as Darrun Hilliard will be graduated when this class hits campus.

Franklin Howard

Fairfax, VA

(Paul VI Catholic & Team Takeover)

6'4", 175 lbs.
  • Georgetown
  • Maryland
  • UConn
  • Virginia

Up_arrow_medium

Villanova has offered Howard, who is much like fellow Takeover product Phil Booth in that he can play either on or off the ball. Howard caught some back luck, tearing his ACL towards the end of the July live period. He could be out up to 6 months.

Malachi Richardson

Roselle, NJ

(Roselle Catholic & Team Final)

6'5", 195 lbs.
  • Indiana
  • Florida
  • Georgetown
  • UConn

Sideways_arrow_medium

Richardson was offered by Villanova at the beginning of August following a strong showing in the July live period where he mostly played a year up. Last night, Richardson announced his top 12 schools, which included Villanova.

Donte Divincenzo

Wilmington, DE

(Salasianum School & Team Final)

6'3", 170 lbs.
  • Penn State
  • Boston College
  • Delaware
  • La Salle
  • Rhode Island

Sideways_arrow_medium

Villanova began tracking Divincenzo during the July live period while he was competing with Team Final. 'Nova has yet to offer the versatile guard, but he looks like one to track as the 2015 class ramps up.

Small Forwards

The commitment of Mikal Bridges added a nice piece to the wing for Villanova, and they look really good here in the coming years with Josh Hart and Kris Jenkins added to the fold in 2013.

Height/Weight Rankings Also Considering Trending
Josh Reaves

Fairfax, VA

(Paul VI Catholic & Team Takeover)

6'4", 185 lbs.
  • VCU
  • Georgetown
  • Penn State
  • Cincinnati
  • Virginia Tech

Sideways_arrow_medium

With the injury to Franklin Howard, Reaves should see plenty of the spotlight in the upcoming high school season. A scheduled trip to 'Nova was cancelled because Jay Wright wasn't going to be around. Get ready to root against Dwayne Anderson, who is recruiting Reaves for Penn State.

Derrick Jones

Radnor, PA

(Archbishop Carroll & WE-R-1)

6'6", 180 lbs.
  • Syracuse
  • Kentucky
  • Kansas
  • Maryland

'Nova did the right thing offering early, as Jones is just seeing his stock explode following a strong spring with WE-R-1. He was offered by both Kentucky and Kansas at the Reebok Breakout and his father has said Kentucky and Syracuse lead.

Marvin Prochet

Brooklyn, NY

(Boys & Girls School & Team Scan)

6'6", 190 lbs.
  • Seton Hall
  • Iona
  • West Virginia
  • Rutgers

Sideways_arrow_medium

Under the radar right now and could be a plan B type of player, but Corey Pegram reports that Villanova is showing interest.

Chris Clover

Philadelphia, PA

(St. Joseph's Prep & Philly Pride)

6'4", 200 lbs.
  • Drexel
  • Penn
  • Temple
  • St. Joseph's (PA)

Sideways_arrow_medium

Clover picked up an offer from Villanova (along with Drexel) at the team camp in mid-June. CoBL notes he's transitioning from the frontcourt to the wing, and needs to improve his jumpshot. He's said that he is considering leaving Philly for college.

Forwards/Centers

Delaney being in the fold so early is a big plus as it allows Jay Wright to be a little more selective and focus on some big names.

Tim Delaney

Pitman, NJ

(Pitman & WE-R-1)

6'8", 225 lbs.
  • Villanova

Sideways_arrow_medium

Delaney made a surprise commitment to 'Nova in late June, giving Villanova a capable forward whose stock is expected to rise. A grinder who also can shoot, he looks like a great grab early on.

Marcus Derrickson

Fairfax, VA

(Paul VI Catholic & Team Takeover)

6'7", 230 lbs.
  • Georgetown
  • Maryland
  • Indiana
  • North Carolina State

Sideways_arrow_medium

The crowned jewel of Paul VI's loaded team, Derrickson owns a Villanova offer. Locals Georgetown and Maryland, along with Indiana, appear to be out in front right now, but it's early and Derrickson isn't fully focused on recruiting just yet.

Thomas Bryant

Rochester, NY

(Bishop Kearney & Team Scan)

6'8", 225 lbs.
  • Syracuse
  • Florida
  • UCLA
  • Arizona

Sideways_arrow_medium

Villanova offered early, but this is in the heart of Boeheim country, so it'll be a tough one to pull off. Bryant impressed at the Nike Peach Jam.

Moustapha Diagne

Sparta, NJ

(Pope John XXIII & NJ Playaz)

6'9", 230 lbs.
  • UConn
  • Cincinnati
  • Seton Hall
  • Rutgers

Up_arrow_medium

Diagne is getting offered on potential right now as his game is a little raw, but he's done well this spring and he'll collect more offers soon. 'Nova has offered.
