Villanova football commit Ricky Young breaks leg in camp

The Souderton High School offensive and defensive lineman was Villanova's first football commit for the 2014 recruiting class, but he will spend much of the 2013 season sidelined.

Ricky Young was a big part of the reason Souderton expected to compete for the Suburban One League Continental Conference football title this fall. He starred on both the offensive line and in the middle of their defensive front, but the Indians will be forced to open the 2013 Fall season without the 290-pounder after he suffered an unfortunate injury during team drills on Wednesday morning.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Young broke his leg during the practice and the injury will hold him out of the team's activities for a few weeks.

Head coach Ed Gallagher is preparing Young's back-up to play a bigger role, remains hopeful that Young will play this season.

Missing time on the field this fall won't likely have a big effect on Young's ability to join the Wildcats a year from now. It may slow his development, but the athlete who is projected to compete for time at nose guard for the Wildcats may have to take a redshirt year to adjust to Villanova anyway.

It will also make it difficult for bigger programs to scout Young in the meantime.
