It's your annual reminder that Villanova University is a good school. But not that good of a school.
The Main Line school has been ranked #1 in the North for Regional Schools by US News & World Report for the 21st consecutive year. The "America's Best Colleges" issue will hit stands on September 24th. Creighton took home the honors for the Midwest, Elon for the South, and Trinity University (San Antonio, TX) for the West.
Looking at the New Big East, 5 schools are considered Regional Schools, while the other half are recognized as National Universities.
Here's how they shake out...
Regional Big East Schools
School | Ranking |
---|---|
Villanova | #1 North |
Creighton | #1 Midwest |
Providence | #2 North |
Butler | #2 Midwest |
Xavier | #4 Midwest |
National Big East Schools
School | Ranking |
---|---|
Georgetown | #20 National |
Marquette | #75 National |
DePaul | #121 National |
Seton Hall | #128 National |

What do you think? Would you rather be a #1 Regional School or #75 Nationally? Oh, and by the way, St. Joseph's (PA) is ranked #11 in the North.
