The Villanova Athletic Fund is trying to pull out all the stops to make this weekend's basketball/football doubleheader a success. In addition to hosting what they promise will be a massive tailgate in the Pike Lot (across from the stadium) starting at 12:30pm that will be open to everyone (in conjunction with the Football Club and Alumni Association), they are looking into a few items.
The most important of them may be an initiative to help fund tickets for the students. The NCAA demands that all tickets -- including student admission -- for playoff games are paid for. That means that for the first time this season, students will be asked to pay to attend the second round playoff game against Liberty University at Villanova Stadium. Though the cost of admission is expected to be lower for students than general fans, it is important to the program that as many students as possible attend the game.
Liberty University is a small campus that rallies around it's team, and the Flames are expected to travel well to the Main Line this weekend.
In order to try and match that enthusiasm, Villanova is asking its community to both attend the football game at 4:30pm, and if possible, to make a tax-deductible donation to help cover the costs of student tickets. They are accepting money earmarked to "Football Postseason" for this purpose.
From an email that is circulating among football club members and donors:
With the basketball team playing Saint Joseph's at 1pm and our playoff football game at 4:30, athletics is prepared with a marketing blitz for next week to get as many tickets to students as possible so they can enjoy a unique double header on 12/6.
You can help us with this initiative by making a tax deductible donation to Villanova Football. Your support will help us to get tickets into the hands of our students and assist with what is hopefully a long championship run. To make a gift, please go online to www.supportvillanovaathletics.com and click on the make a gift button. From there scroll down to the option of "other athletics priorities" when prompted to designate your gift please type "Football Postseason". If you would prefer sending a check, please send to:

Villanova has committed to the 2014 playoff run by bidding to host home games for every round of the playoffs until the Championship game (held on a neutral field in Frisco, TX). The home designations are determined by the NCAA's FCS committee and are based on a variety of factors, with seeding being a major consideration, along with facilities, revenue potential, attendance history and student-athlete concerns. The bid represents a financial commitment in addition to the costs of operating a game day on campus.
For alumni and fans, the University is working to create a fun double-header atmosphere for basketball ticket holders between games, and will be working on setting up an expanded tailgating center in the Pike lot on the opposite side of Lancaster Avenue.
