According to multiple reports, QB and Walter Payton finalist John Robertson will not be playing in today's quarterfinal matchup against the Sam Houston State Bearkats. Senior Chris Polony will start in his place.
Villanova will play today without starting QB John Robertson who is out due to an injury suffered in last week's win over Liberty.— Villanova Football (@NovaFootball) December 13, 2014
There were no reports of this injury throughout the week, however it would appear he woke up with concussion-like symptoms on Saturday and could not give it a go. He had been cleared to play on Friday after undergoing Villanova's strict concussion protocol, but that was wiped out when he reported symptoms this morning.
Villanova said Robertson had been cleared Friday but woke up today with symptoms back. Initial injury in last week's game.— Mike Jensen (@jensenoffcampus) December 13, 2014
Polony has played in 8 games this season. He is 9-14 for 102 yards and touchdown interception. He has also rushed 19 times on the season for 100 yards and scored one touchdown. Most of those appearances came at the end of blowouts, however, Polony was the starter for a long stretch as a freshman four years ago, and is intimately familiar with the Villanova playbook.
In the first game of 2012, however, Polony's offense didn't seem able to get anything going against Temple in the season opener, and he was pulled for Robertson -- who has been the starter for every game since then. Polony himself, replaced Dustin Thomas during the 2011 season, who went on to transfer out of the program after the season.
