Closest to the Pin Contest Round 1: St. Joseph’s (PA)

It was a dominating win by the Cats, exceeding the Crowd's predicted winning margin in a lower-scoring game than expected. BossHogHazzard's prediction of 108 - 34 was looking prescient for the first 10 minutes, but proved to be a bit of irrational exuberance at the end of the day. Congratulations to drpainosaurus, who takes the contest lead going into Round 2 with a predicted score of 77-49.

CTTP St. Joe's Dec 2014

With the Cat's 2014-15 season promising to be a special one, Mike has decided to run the Closest to the Pin Contest once again this year. This year's contest will cover all Villanova home conference games plus the St. Joseph's, Temple and Syracuse games in December.

Simply put, contestants predict the final game score and the three coming closest in each game earn points toward the contest grand prize awarded at the end of the season. Points will be awarded in each game to the three contestants with the smallest absolute difference between their predicted scores and the actual scores without regard to whether the contestant correctly picked the winning team.

The contestant coming closest to the final score earns three (3) points, second closest earns two (2) points and third closest earns one (1) point. If the player with the most accurate prediction picks the score exactly (i.e., a "Hole in One"), he or she earns a three (3) additional point bonus (i.e., 6 points in total). There can be more than three contestants earning points in the event of a tie. The contestant accumulating the most points over the course of the season will win bragging rights as the best prognosticator on VUHoops plus a $50 gift certificate to Fanatics.

The official rules of the contest are detailed HERE.  Our past Champions are:

  • 2013-14 Season: PacADAM
  • 2011-12 Season: Dom & Scott0220 (Tie)
  • 2010-11 Season: Regred
