Weekly Awards: Ryan Arcidiacono named to Big East Honor Roll, Big 5 POW

Honors rolling in after a dominant week for Arch

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Villanova sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, the conference announced early Monday afternoon. Arch was also named to the Big East's Weekly Honor Roll, the conference also announced.

Arcidiacono is coming off a strong week, leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 stretch and a No. 8 ranking in the Associated Press' weekly poll that saw Syracuse get dethroned from their top position and Creighton move into the top-ten. The Langhorne, Pennsylvania, native averaged 16.5 points and 4.5 assists including two pivotal three-point-plays to give Villanova wins against scrappy Big East foes.

The 6-foot-3, 195 pound guard has been having a strong stretch in conference play after a slow start to the season. Arch is averaging 10 points per contest and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 32.6 percent from deep and 39.3 percent from the field. His season high in scoring (21) came against Providence earlier this week.

This is the first time this season Arch has received the player of the week honor from the Big 5 and first occasion when an honor from each conference was given to the guard.
