Eric Drains, a 6'4", 275 lb. defensive lineman from Father Judge (PA) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Football at Villanova, the school announced this morning. Before transferring to Father Judge as a junior, Drains attended Furness.
Eric Drains committed to Villanova on January 7th and will likely play on the interior of the defensive line during his college career. Drains also played offensive tackle for Father Judge and participated on the wrestling team in the offseason. He was selected as a 2nd-Team All-Catholic honoree in the Philadelphia Catholic League for his work on the defensive side of the ball this season. He was a leader on the field for Judge, and often found himself making the key plays to stop opposing offenses.
Here's the depth chart on defensive line entering 2014.
Class | Name | Height | Weight |
---|---|---|---|
Senior | Pat Williams | 6'0" | 295 lbs. |
Junior | Jordan Hunter | 6'2" | 305 lbs. |
Sophomore | Mike Williams | 6'4" | 300 lbs. |
With Pat Williams entering his final season and Jordan Hunter closing in on the last of his eligibility as well, the Wildcats were in need of some defensive line help, which they find with Drains and fellow classmate Rick Young. Nova also lost key four-year starters in Antoine Lewis and Rakim Cox along the defensive line after the fall season.
Similar to Mike Williams last season, expect Drains to spend a year learning the defensive scheme and bulking up in the weight room before hitting the field, unless the need arises due to injury - or an outstanding performance in training camp.
