Spellman, a four-star recruit over multiple recruiting platforms, is No. 30 overall on the 247 Sports' composite rankings and averaged close to 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks during his sophomore season. The 6-foot-8, 230 pounder from Hoosick, New York, plays his AAU ball for New York's Team Scan and is expected to have a huge spring and summer.
He is rated #37 nationally by Rivals and#30 by Scout
The 6'8" big man has reportedly added muscle since early February, is a good ball handler at the forward position and could turn into the prototypical stretch-four before he graduates. Spellman already possesses a strong perimeter game. Jay Wright offered Spellman on Thursday in person.
Rutgers, Iowa and Purdue have all watched him play in person and are pulling him toward the Big Ten but the Wildcats could end up snagging Spellman, but it's still too early in the process to tell. Spellman currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Dayton, UNLV, Northern Kentucky, Cleveland State, Ohio, Rutgers, West Virginia, Iowa and UCLA.
Thad Matta and Ohio State are expected to offer Spellman before his senior year to make the process even more competitive but the assumption is that he will likely land in the Big 10 or the Big East.
