According to Sportando.com, Westtown's Giorgios Papagiannis -- a local recruiting target who has been one of the region's most-interesting basketball prospects -- has signed with Greek Club Panathinaikos. The Athens-based team has been one of the most successful entries in the Greek professional circuit.
The move does not rule out a return to the United States to play college basketball, according to CoBL. He could maintain amateur status and American college eligibility as long as he does not get paid by Panathinaikos. He also reportedly has a clause in this contract that would allow him to opt out of the deal.
That said, it now seems very plausible that Papagiannis will spend the next two years playing basketball in Greece before entering the 2016 NBA Draft.
He had been heavily recruited by Temple, Penn State, Georgetown, Maryland, Syracuse and Pittsburgh, and Villanova has reportedly also been keeping an eye on the talented big man, who arrived at Westtown after debuting as an amateur for Greek pro side Peristeri at just 14.
