TGIF, 'Nova Nation! I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon explaining the finer points of soccer, and World Cup soccer in general, to my future brother in-law. Despite his "this would be so much more fun if there were 10 goals per game" argument, he proved himself a good American by cheering wildly when Cristiano Ronaldo put the Americans through to the next phase.
But I ask you this...can you really be happy even in defeat? Sure I'm thrilled that the US is progressing, but I left with a lukewarm feeling - the attacking display we put on against Portugal was sacrificed against the Germans and it wasn't that fun to watch.
And it won't work against Belgium.
