Former Villanova baseball and football player Matt Szczur has been called up to the big leagues as the Chicago Cubs from the clubs AAA affiliate Iowa.
The centerfielder has an on base percentage of .315 this season and has a .345 career OBP in the minors.
He was selected by the Cubs in the 5th Round of the 2010 MLB Draft and was paid $1.5m to give up playing with the pigskin.
No official release has been issued by the Cubs, but a tweet by Villanova Football Head Coach Andy Talley seems to be a solid source.
You heard it here first, Matt Szczur called up to the Chicago Cubs!! Good luck Matt. Villanova football royalty.
