As was expected, the Villanova Wildcats were unanimously selected to win the Big East for the third straight season by the league's coaches. Georgetown, Butler, Xavier and Providence rounded out the Top 5. St. John's was projected to finish last in Chris Mullin's first season.
In what was likely a much closer call, Jalen Brunson was selected by the coaches as the preseason Rookie of the Year. Marquette's Henry Ellenson was the primary competition, as the two are undoubtedly the best freshmen in the conference. Providence's Kris Dunn was selected as the Player of the Year, to nobody's surprise.
As for the All-Big East teams, Ryan Arcidiacono (1st Team), Daniel Ochefu (2nd Team) and Jalen Brunson (Honorable Mention) were honored by the conference.
