Villanova got back to winning ways with Sunday's blowout of La Salle, but the team did announce some bad news in the aftermath. Freshman guard Donte DiVincenzo is out indefinitely with a right foot injury. DiVincenzo didn't dress for Sunday's game, and was seen with a boot on his right foot sitting at the end of the bench.
Jay Wright confirmed in his postgame press conference that DiVincenzo won't play next Saturday against Virginia, and he's not quite sure when he'll be back in action. DiVincenzo is due for more tests this week to determine the severity of the injury.
DiVincenzo has been at the back end of the rotation thus far in his career. He's yet to play a major role, so a short-term absence wouldn't be a big concern to Villanova. If his injury is serious, however, the Wildcats will be forced to play with an 8-man rotation as they head towards conference play. A shortened bench isn't ideal, and the 'Cats are already down a couple of players with Eric Paschall redshirting and Tim Delaney out for the season.
In 8 games so far this season, DiVincenzo has averaged 1.9 ppg and 2.0 rpg in 9.3 minutes per game off the bench.
