Villanova freshman point guard Jalen Brunson has been named to the 2016 Wayman Tisdale Award for the National Freshman Player of the Year. The 6'2" point guard out of Lincolnshire, IL was also named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List in October.
The USBWA has chosen a national freshman of the year since the 1988-89 season when LSU's Chris Jackson was the recipient. The 2015-16 season marks the sixth year the award has been named in Wayman Tisdale's honor.
Through seven games this season Brunson is averaging 11.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
Wildcat alumn, Tim Thomas, won the Sporting News' Freshman of the Year in 1997.
