The Sun's Arizin: Don't worry about Villanova's early losses

Because winning all the time the past 2 years didn't work out as planned!

Happy Tuesday, 'Nova Nation! At the risk of beating a dead horse, just put the Oklahoma and Virginia games out of your mind. Forget that Villanova has a startling problem rebounding the basketball. Don't lament their problems. Root for your team.

They play Delaware tonight. They will likely look very good. They will likely win big. Enjoy it, and get ready for a big game on New Year's Eve.

After losing at Virginia, 86-75, Saturday, Villanova's two defeats are against America's most efficient offensive team (the Cavaliers were at their efficient best) and the country's second-best three-point shooting team (Oklahoma). Wildcats coach Jay Wright wanted to test his team in the nonconference, hoping the experiences would help when the games matter most in mid-March. He has definitely done that.

Villanova practiced Sunday and Monday to get over the Virginia loss. Delaware (5-4) should provide the remedy for a team looking to get over an L.

The Blue Hens dropped a tough 69-61 decision to Boston College despite a career-high 35-point night from Kory Holden. The 6-2 sophomore guard is averaging 25 points over the last four games. Forward Marvin King-Davis has five double-doubles. This is the fourth of six consecutive road games for Delaware. The Blue Hens visit Buffalo (Dec. 29) and Hofstra (Dec. 31) before returning home to take on James Madison (Jan. 2). Delaware is 1-3 on the road.

USA Basketball names Villanova's Brunson male athlete of the year | FOX Sports
Brunson led USA to the gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championships this summer in Greece. The Villanova guard earned tournament MVP honors, averaging 14.0 points, 5.6 steals and 3.3 rebounds. He recorded 39 assists to 12 turnovers (five of which came in one game) in seven contests against international competition.
