While The Sun's Arizin is usually rather whimsical in tone, given yesterday's rail disaster in Villanova's backyard, let's take a moment to be serious. A train carrying 238 passengers (and five crew) derailed just outside of Philadelphia, causing at least 5 deaths and many more injuries.

At least five people were killed and 50 were injured when a northbound Amtrak train derailed Tuesday night in Port Richmond, Mayor Nutter said.

James Lawrence Nolan, 94, Augustinian friar |
The Rev. James Lawrence Nolan, 94, an Augustinian friar, teacher, and priest who in his later years was not above driving his fellow friars to medical appointments, died Tuesday, May 5, of heart failure at St. Thomas Monastery, Villanova.

Sister Mary Theodosia Linus, 98, teacher |
Sister Theodosia earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in elementary education from Villanova University in 1947 and 1965. She earned a second master's degree, in library science, from Villanova in 1968. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
