CBS's Jon Rothstein has dropped a large and unexpected bomb on Tuesday afternoon; Villanova and Virginia are scheduling a home & home series starting this upcoming season.
Next season's game will be played in Charlottesville with the return game to be played in Philly during the 2016-17 season.
Both teams are coming off of 30+ win seasons and are expected to be in, or near, the Top 10 when the polls drop next season. The schools have met six times previously with UVA winning four of the games. However, 'Nova has the most recent victory courtesy of its 73-63 victory over the Cavaliers in 2004.
This unofficial announcement adds the Cavaliers to a solid non-conference schedule that will include another potential Top 10 team in Oklahoma (neutral site game in Hawaii), Nebraska, two of Stanford, Arkansas, & Georgia Tech in the NIT Season Tip-off and the Big 5 slate. After most fans clamored for a tougher schedule to prepare the Wildcats for the postseason, Jay Wright and the Villanova administration have definitely silenced their critics.
