The CAA's Media Day is being held at M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore Ravens) today, and it's been a good day so far for the Villanova football team. The preseason poll (voted on by coaches and media relations reps) was released and Villanova landed the top spot. With national championship hopes, it's no surprise to see them here, but as always the CAA comes in with multiple Top-25 teams and will be a grind.
- Villanova Wildcats (14)
- James Madison Dukes (5)
- New Hampshire Wildcats (5)
- William & Mary Tribe
- Richmond Spiders
- Delaware Blue Hens
- Maine Black Bears
- Stony Brook Seawolves
- Towson Tigers
- Albany Great Danes
- Rhode Island Rams
- Elon Phoenix
CAA Offensive Player of the Year
On to the individual awards. Quarterback John Robertson who won the 2014 Walter Payton Award, was a consensus All-American, and was the CAA Offensive Player of the Year. So it was expected to see him named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 and the voters did just that.
CAA Defensive Player of the Year
Don Cherry, the anchor of the Villanova defense, is coming off an All-American season himself and finished second for the Buck Buchanan Award last season. He's the preseason pick for CAA Defensive Player of the Year, giving Andy Talley arguably the two best players in the conference heading in to the new season.
Somewhat surprisingly, however, no other Wildcats landed on the preseason All-CAA team on either side of the ball. While the team is losing some key pieces from last season, that's a testament to the team's depth and reputation that they could have just two players named while still being the best team in the conference.
The CAA's Media Day is available to live stream on CAA.tv starting at 10am ET. Andy Talley, John Robertson and Don Cherry are all attending and expected to conduct interviews.
