Late Saturday night, DeAndre Hunter announced his verbal commitment to Virginia. The Friends Central (Pa.) forward had scheduled officials to Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Miami (Fl.) but those now won't be necessary.

Hunter is a very good player who fits right in to Tony Bennett's system, and he spent the weekend surrounded by three other Hoos' commitments. His decision to end his recruitment shouldn't come as a total surprise, but it does strike another blow to Villanova's 2016 recruiting effort.
With just Omari Spellman in the fold and an offer out to Dylan Painter (who is coming off a Penn State visit and could decide shortly), it will be interesting to see if Villanova offers another 2016 player, amps up the pressure on Lamar Stevens, or pockets the scholarship for 2017.
A class of Spellman, Painter (and essentially Eric Paschall) would be very good for the Wildcats, and would give them 11 eligible scholarship players next season - right on the threshold of what Jay Wright likes to operate with.
