A week off from basketball gives us a chance for a quick peek at the recruiting plans for Villanova in a loaded 2017 class. Expect the coaches to hit the road this week too to continue scouting. The influx of size in the program next year means that this class could be guard/wing heavy, and there wouldn't be any reason to complain.
A 3-man class makes sense given who the Wildcats will be losing, but as usual transfers or early entries could always change things up.
Here's the current scholarship outlook, courtesy of MikeJ.
Backcourt
Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart are definitely gone, and there's always the threat of Jalen Brunson leaving as well, though that is looking increasingly unlikely. With one new offer to a true point guard and Trevon Duval still a target, a ball handling guard looks like it's in the cards in addition to at least one guard who can create for himself.

---|---|---|---|---|
Lonnie Walker
Reading, PA (Reading & Team Final) |
6'4", 180 lbs. |
5-star #19 Nationally #4 SG #2 Pennsylvania |
Indiana Ohio State Maryland Penn State Stanford Temple |
Still priority #1, and still considered a Villanova lean at this point. Walker was in town for the Xavier blowout - but don't expect a commitment soon. He's stated he plans on taking some visits. |
Jermaine Samuels
Weston, MA (The Rivers School & Expressions Elite) |
6'6", 190 lbs. |
4-star #37 Nationally #8 SF #1 Massachusetts |
UConn Providence Boston College |
Samuels is just recently back from injury, but Villanova is involved. So much so that both Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater have made Crystal Ball picks for Samuels to Villanova. Getting him on campus will be key. |
Chris Lykes
Washington, D.C. (Gonzaga & Team Takeover) |
5'8", 150 lbs. |
3-star #178 Nationally #44 PG #1 D.C. |
Georgetown VCU Miami (FL) Dayton |
Villanova just offered Lykes last week, and should be involved going forward given their strong roots in the D.C. area and track record with guards. |
Trevon Duval
Wilmington, DE (Advanced Prep International & WE-R-1) |
6'3", 175 lbs. |
5-star #3 Nationally #1 PG #1 Delaware |
Maryland Louisville Kansas Baylor Oklahoma Arizona |
With the schools involved, Duval remains a longshot for Villanova, and his move to Texas didn't help the cause. He's quiet when it comes to recruiting, so let's re-evaluate during AAU season. |
D.J. Harvey
Hyattsville, MD (DeMatha & Team Takeover) |
6'6", 185 lbs. |
5-star #9 Nationally #1 SG #1 Maryland |
Duke Arizona Louisville Georgetown Maryland North Carolina |
Harvey just cut his list to 16, and the Wildcats are in the thick of it with another planned cut to come once AAU starts back up. Gut feeling is this is Duke's to lose, but Harvey is too good to give up on. |
Quade Green
Philadelphia, PA (Neumann-Goretti & Team Final) |
5'11", 160 lbs. |
4-star #37Nationally #8 PG #3 Pennsylvania
|
Syracuse Michigan State Maryland Providence Temple |
Villanova has been at several NG games this season for both Green and his teammate Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree. He's a priority and could be a great fit at Villanova given his skill set. His AAU switch to Nike-backed Team Final is encouraging as well. |
Hamidou Diallo
Queens, NY (Putnam Science Academy & NY Jayhawks) |
6'4", 170 lbs. |
5-star #10 Nationally #2 SG #1 New York
|
UConn Kansas St. John's Louisville Kentucky |
Villanova offered Hamidou Diallo over the summer, but it doesn't feel like that recruitment ever got off the ground. |
Jordan Tucker
White Plains, NY (Archbishop Stepniac & NY Lightning) |
6'7", 200 lbs. |
4-star #33 Nationally #7 SF #2 New York |
Syracuse Maryland Kentucky Arizona St. John's Michigan |
Tucker has set visits to St. John's and Maryland, with nary of mention of Villanova being involved lately. |
Brandon Randolph
Yonkers, NY (Westtown & PSA Cardinals) |
6'6", 185 lbs. |
4-star #145 Nationally #30 SG #5 New York
|
Louisville Marquette VCU Virginia Tech Vanderbilt Wake Forest |
Villanova definitely has their eye on Randolph, who just landed an offer from Louisville. His recruitment is about to take off and the 'Cats would be well served to get involved soon with an offer. |
Tremont Waters
New Haven, CT (South Kent & NE Playaz) |
5'11", 160 lbs. |
4-star #41Nationally #11 PG #2 Connecticut
|
UConn Stanford Wake Forest St. John's Seton Hall |
Villanova has expressed interest in Waters and attended multiple games to scout him, but no offer yet. |
Kellan Grady
West Roxbury, MA (Northfield Mt. Herman & NE Playaz) |
6'4", 175 lbs. |
3-star #173 Nationally #42 PG #5 Massachusetts
|
Davidson Xavier Creighton St. Joseph's (PA) Rhode Island |
Davidson is the odds-on favorite for Grady, but Wright watched him in November and an offer would certainly give Grady something to think about. |
Frontcourt
The Wildcats have a strong 2-man class in 2016 that will replenish the frontcourt with talent after Daniel Ochefu graduates following this season. With Darryl Reynolds out the door as this class arrives, 'Nova will be looking to bring in

Mohamed Bamba
New York, NY (Westtown & PSA Cardinals) |
6'11", 205 lbs. |
5-star #5 Nationally #3 PF #1 New York |
Duke Kentucky Maryland North Carolina |
As with Harvey, you get the feeling Duke is in pole position. But given the proximity and familiarity with the program, Villanova has a shot, however long it might be. |
Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree
Philadelphia, PA (Neumann-Goretti & Team Final) |
6'8", 215 lbs. |
3-star #132 Nationally #30 PF #4 Pennsylvania |
Syracuse USC Penn State Temple St. Joseph's (PA)
|
Like Quade Green, Villanova has been around NG a ton this season. NG has been Syracuse territory for years, but the Wildcats could very well pull this one out. |
Hameir Wright
Albany, NY (Albany Academy & Albany City Rocks |
6'7", 180 lbs. |
4-star #68 Nationally #12 SF #5 New York |
Maryland Cincinnati Dayton West Virginia |
Wright reportedly holds a 'Nova offer, but not much going on in his recruitment publicly right now. |
Nick Richards
Manhasset, NY (St. Patrick's & Expressions Elite) |
6'10", 220 lbs. |
5-star #14 Nationally #2 C #1 New York |
Kansas Kentucky Arizona UCLA UConn
|
Kentucky has been all over Richards, and given their track record with the frontline, it's hard to see him ending up anywhere else. |
