Villanova is #1 for the third week- how the AP Pollsters voted

For the third consecutive week, and yes, the third week ever, the Villanova Wildcats are the #1 team in the country. Now, we're going to dig in to how the AP Voters cast their ballots for the Week 16 Poll..

This week, 'Nova grabbed 45 of the 65 First Place ballots, with the Kansas Jayhawks collecting the balance. This is an improvement over the 44 votes they collected last week, and 32 votes for the top spot that the 'Cats got on February 8th.

However, it wasn't just one voter who bumped up the 'Cats to #1 on their ballots; John Werner of the Waco (TX) Tribune-Herald who gave a first place vote to 'Nova last week, dropped them to #2 this week. In his stead, Doug Doughty of The Roanoke (VA) Times and Tom Green of the Opelika-Auburn (AL) News moved Villanova from #2 to #1.

Kevin Lyttle, representing the Austin (TX) American-Statesman was the sole voter to ranked the Wildcats below #2 (as a quick note, this is not the same Kevin Lyttle who had the worldwide hit "Turn Me On" in 2004). According to College Poll Tracker, Lyttle's ballot had eleven "Extreme Picks", which is defined as a pick that "is 5+ spots from the actual ranking."
