Tight end Todd Summers signs with Villanova, spurns Kansas State offer

Finishing with a bang!

Todd Summers has officially signed his National Letter of Intent with Villanova, the school announced this morning. A 6'6" 220 lb. tight end from Franklin Regional (Pa.), Summers picked up an offer from Villanova in late January, but never made a public commitment to the Wildcats. He chose the Wildcats over an FBS offer from Kansas State.

Summers is a huge target and should be a perfect fit in the tight end role at Villanova. He's a capable blocker in the running game though he'll need to put on some more weight. He's a potential force in the passing attack though, and has some decent wheels for his size too once he sees daylight. He was a Big 33 nominee in Pennsylvania - usually an indication that he's one of the top players in the state.

Here's the tight end depth chart heading in to 2016:

Depth Chart (* denotes walk-on)
Class Name Height Weight
Senior Ryan Morris 6'3" 250 lbs.
Junior Ryan Bell* 6'3" 230 lbs.
(RS) Freshman Simon Bingelis 6'6" 225 lbs.
Senior Fran Walsh* 6'0" 260* lbs.

With Doug Turrell out of eligibility, this is a position in flux heading in to 2016. Odds are that former Purdue Boilermaker Ryan Morris has the inside track to start over Ryan Bell and Simon Bingelis should get a chance as well after taking a redshirt last season. Summers could find himself in the mix as well given the lack of depth. His size could certainly be an asset with the WR corps. on the outside being a bit unproven as well.

Welcome Todd to 'Nova Nation!
