Villanova Basketball Recruiting: Daron Russell unofficially visits for DePaul game

The local point guard is undersized, but a great athlete.

2017 Imhotep (Pa.) point guard Daron Russell attended Villanova's victory over DePaul on Tuesday evening, per CoBL's Josh Verlin.

Russell is a 5'10" 150 lb. guard who plays for Team Final on the AAU circuit. He's a 3-star prospect ranked #191 in the country by the 247 Composite, and holds offers from Seton Hall, SMU, Temple and several mid-majors.

City of Basketball Love has a solid scouting report on Daron Russell, and notes that he is an exceptional athlete who is adept at getting in to the lane off the dribble and making plays, though his jump shot needs some work. His small stature might be slightly worrisome since Wright has looked for bigger guards, but Russell plays fearlessly.

Russell is starting to get more high-major offers following an impressive junior season in high school, and could see his stock rise further with a strong spring/summer with Team Final. A primary ball-handler hasn't been a huge priority thus far - and 5-star Trevon Duval is clearly still plan A - but Russell could see increased pursuit from the staff should things cool with Duval.
