Report: Phoenix Suns targeting Villanova's Jay Wright for head coaching job

Isn't the offseason fun?

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

NBA journalist Mitch Lawrence tweeted out minutes ago that the Phoenix Suns are targeting Villanova Wildcats head coach Jay Wright for their head coaching vacancy.

This isn't the first time in recent years we've heard Wright associated with open head coaching jobs, with both high-major colleges and the Philadelphia 76ers routinely being interested in him. That part is totally fine. He's one of the best coaches in the college game and fresh off a National Championship. Executives are going to be interested. They'd be silly not to be.

But Wright has routinely said that he's happy at Villanova, and you don't mess with happy. Now that he has a National Championship, you could argue that he may seek a greater challenge down the road, but I just don't see it. Yet, anyways.

This is something to keep an eye on, but  this would almost certainly be one-sided interest at this point. And even better, this just gives Wright leverage to get a pay raise and extension from Villanova - which he deserves.
