JayVaughn Pinkston signs with Mantovana in Italy

Pinkston is off to Europe.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Former Villanova forward JayVaughn Pinkston has signed a deal with Pallacanestro Mantovana of the Italian Serie A2, the second division of basketball in the country.

It's been a tough start to Pinkston's pro career after he tore his ACL in his first NBA practice with the Brooklyn Nets last spring. After almost a year of rehabr, he signed with the Maine Red Claws (D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics) and participated in the NBA Summer League.

Mantovana is based in Mantua in the Northern region of Lombardy. The team finished third in the East division of the league last season, but was upset in the first round of the playoffs by Agrigento. The Italian League has three divisions, and operates a promotion-relegation system where the playoff champion of Serie A2 is promoted to Serie A, and the bottom three teams in each division are relegated to Serie B.

Best of luck to Pinkston in Europe!
