Those of you who have been clamoring for some live Villanova sports action will get your wish when college football returns for a massive Labor Day weekend. Wildcats football aside, this may be the best opening weekend in college football history.
Villanova heads to Heinz Field to take on the Pitt Panthers in their annual buy-game (Saturday, 1:30pm ET, ESPN3) where they put some middling FBS team on upset alert. One problem - secretly-decent Pitt from a year ago may just morph into a very good football team.
They return a ton of starters on defense, an offensive line that could have up to 4 NFL Draft picks, and two running backs that have brought home ACC Player of the Year honors.
Long story short, Pitt should win this game if all goes according to plan.
Some odds and ends to get you in the mood for Villanova Football:
- Our brethren at Cardiac Hill think Pitt will avoid an embarassing defeat because they’ve been embarassed so often in the past. Law of averages I suppose, but that doesn’t inspire confidence.
- Can Villanova contend for a conference title? The CAA Football crew thinks so if Zach Bednarczyk can be consistent, because their defense is downright scary.
- Speaking of the defense, the CAA has a pair of cool video features on captains Tanoh Kpassagnon and Austin Calitro
- If you’re heading to the game, the Villanova Football Club wants to drink with you at 10am. These events are great, so hit it up.
