Surprise! College athletes are using their stipends responsibly

Elsewhere, the NY Times has a cool followup on the stipend program that hit college campuses in the last couple of season. You'll likely remember the moaning over 'paying' athletes in the first place, with a good portion of the internet saying players would blow this money on things they didn't actually need.

Turns out that isn't really true! I'm sure there are edge cases, but these athlets were just like you and me in college, except they're generally coming from a poorer background. So it's cool to see them being able to put the the stipend to good use.

The stipends are meant to cover costs not included in a traditional athletic scholarship and by golly it appears these kids are acting like adults.
