Villanova Women’s Cross Country wins Big East Championship

Happy Monday, ‘Nova Nation! Not the best weekend for ‘Nova athletics, as you’ll see below, but the Women’s Cross-Country team brought salvaged it by covering themselves in glory and bringing home a Big East Championship!

They won their 15th title - far more than anyone else - and their first since 2011! And did it in a massive come-from-behind victory. Kudos, ladies!

Villanova won the BIG EAST women’s cross country title for a record 15th time on Saturday afternoon and six runners earned All-BIG EAST honors in an exciting finish to the conference championships at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. A strong pack of runners for the Wildcats made a big surge over the second half of the 6,000 meter race to deliver the team title by a seven-point margin over runner-up Providence and the rest of the field.

The sophomore trio of Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.), Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) and Paul Power (Phoenixville, Pa.) led Villanova to a third place showing on Saturday morning in a remarkably close finish to the BIG EAST Championships at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. Each of the Wildcats top three runners earned first team All-BIG EAST honors in a race where just 17 points separated Georgetown, Butler and Villanova in the team standings.
