Villanova Basketball moves up to #5 in the latest AP Poll

Onwards and upwards!

NCAA Basketball: Columbia at Villanova Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Villanova has one win under their belts and they’re already moving up in the polls. The Wildcats are now ranked 5th overall in the AP poll after jumping a Kentucky team that barely held on to beat Vermont over the weekend.

Going back to Villanova’s National Championship season, Villanova has now been ranked in the Top 5 in 26 of the last 28 polls, and it’s their 31st straight AP poll ranked in the Top 10. That Top 10 streak is the 2nd best active streak in the country behind Kansas.

Villanova wasn’t the only Big East school to move up in the polls either. Xavier moved up two spots to #15, while Seton Hall jumped a spot to #22. The Wildcats won’t face any ranked opponents this week, and should have no problem holding their position inside the Top 5. Villanova could even see another bump up the polls next week after #1 Duke plays #2 Michigan State and #4 Kansas plays #7 Kentucky on Tuesday.
