College basketball rankings, week 7: Villanova retains #1 spot in AP Poll

Wildcats remain at top spot, return to action Friday.

Villanova remains #1 in the latest AP Poll. A close victory from Michigan State over Oakland didn’t bolster their case enough to overtake ‘Nova, who pummeled Temple on the road by 20 points. Arizona State jumped over Duke for the #3 ranking, their highest ranking since 1981. Oklahoma entered the rankings at #17 after a convincing victory at Wichita State.

Xavier moved up one spot to #9, Seton Hall dropped 8 spots to #23 after their loss to Rutgers, and Creighton squeaked into the rankings at #25. With four teams in the top 25, the Big East is bolstering their power and recognition as one of the strongest conferences.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday against Hofstra in a neutral site game in Uniondale, NY. Jalen Brunson will look to continue his hot streak after dropping 31 points against Temple, and Mikal Bridges hopes to get back on track after a relatively quiet 7 point performance. After 9 days off for finals, the team looks to get back into the swing of things and prepare for Big East play starting next week.

Also some notable news: with Florida State Women’s Basketball loss against Texas, Villanova is now the only college program with an undefeated men’s and women’s team. The Lady ‘Cats play Wednesday at La Salle.
