College basketball’s spring signing period began yesterday, and the Villanova Wildcats (we officially finished off* their 2017 recruiting class. 3-star PG Collin Gillespie signed his Letter of Intent, joining previous signees Jermaine Samuels and Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree.

Gillespie is a pass-first floor general with a tight handle, but he’s also very capable of scoring on drives to the hoop and has an above-average outside jumper. He won the Player of the Year Award in the Philadelphia Catholic League en route to leading Archbishop Wood to the PCL and State Championship.
While he will inevitably draw comparisons to to Ryan Arcidiacono, he is unlikely to make the type of immediate impact that Arch made on the Main Line. That may be better in the long run for ‘Nova, as Gillespie can learn under Jalen Brunson before stepping into a larger role.
Villanova currently has the #26 class in the country according to the 247 Composite Rankings.
