4-star guard Prentiss Hubb commits to Notre Dame over Villanova & Maryland

Where does Villanova go from here?

Kelly Kline | Under Armour

There was a bit of a shocker last night, as 4-star combo guard Prentiss Hubb verbally committed to Notre Dame over Maryland, Villanova and Virginia.

The ‘Cats weren’t the favorite here, but were thought to be in a close battle with Maryland for his commitment. Hubb pulled off a mild surprise by picking the Irish - but maybe it shouldn’t have been one.

The Irish have been solid on the court in recent years and feature guards heavily in their scheme much like Villanova does. Mike Brey also has solid ties to the Washington D.C. area.

What does this mean for Villanova? It’s disappointing, for sure. Hubb was a top target at the point guard spot, but Jay Wright still has plenty of options. 5-star Jahvon Quinerly is (still) the #1 target for the position and ‘Nova remains in good position. The ‘Cats have also extended offers to David Duke, Elijah Weaver, and Devon Dotson.

I said it a couple days ago, but I’m all-in on Quinerly. It’s tough to miss on Hubb, but if Wright can land Quinerly we won’t be talking about this as a miss in the fall.
