Coaches weren’t on the road this weekend, but the Villanova coaching staff was still making moves. The Wildcats staff extended a scholarship offer to 2018 point guard David Duke.

Duke has been one of the prospects to blow up so far this spring, as his Mass Rivals team (the same AAU program as A.J. Reeves) is off to an undefeated start. His recruitment is just starting to take off as he holds offers from Kansas, Syracuse, Providence, UConn and Florida among others.
The Villanova coaching staff stopped by Cushing Academy (Mass.) several months ago to scout Duke and they’re now officially jumping into his recruitment.
Duke stands 6’4” and is a dynamic lead guard who excels at getting to the rim. He’s currently ranked #76 in the 247 Composite, with Providence considered the favorite for his signature.
There’s a couple of ways to look at this. Duke has been on the ‘Nova radar for a while and with his size and athleticism he’s a great fit in the backcourt. So what took so long to offer? Maybe the coaching staff wanted to continue to evaluate him through the early spring period? Maybe they wanted him to commit to a campus visit this summer? Maybe they’ve gotten the news on the impending Prentiss Hubb decision?
Whatever the reason, he’s a great option as the staff continues to cast a wide net in search for a lead guard in the 2018 class.
