Villanova Basketball Recruiting: Jalen Smith schedules Maryland official visit

It’s thought to be a Terps-Wildcats battle for the 5-star forward.

The first official visit has been scheduled for 5-star forward Jalen Smith to the hometown Maryland Terrapins, per Maryland Rivals reporter Pat Donohue.

“Sticks” has yet to schedule any other official visits, and this one comes at a particularly bad time for Villanova as Jay Wright hosts his annual high school team camp on that weekend. Smith’s Mount St. Joseph’s program has attended in recent years.

That would have been another convenient unofficial visit for Smith (he’s already visited multiple times in 2017), but instead the ‘Cats will have to hope there’s no imminent commitment coming and try to get Smith on campus in the coming weeks.

If ‘Nova can’t land Jalen Smith, they’re a bit thin on other options in the frontcourt. Juwan Durham just wrapped up visits to Villanova, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech and we should get a decision on his future soon as well. He’s the only other target that’s being actively recruited as a true frontcourt player at this time.
