On Wednesday night, Dane Goodwin announced his verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Twitter.

Goodwin originally committed to Ohio State a couple of years ago, but decommitted following Thad Matta’s retirement. Goodwin took official visits to both Notre Dame and Villanova before giving new Buckeyes coach Chris Holtmann a shot with an official visit last week.
The verbal to ND might come as somewhat of a surprise for those that following recruiting closely. Mike Brey already has Top-100 guards on board in Prentiss Hubb and Robby Carmody, but he still had room for Goodwin as well.
Villanova essentially had removed themselves from consideration with the commitment of Cole Swider last week. Swider and Goodwin are both elite shooters and though they play different positions, the ‘Cats had moved on to other guard priorities once they secured Swider.
So ends this short-lived recruiting saga for Villanova fans, if it hadn’t already practically ended last week once Swider committed to the ‘Cats.
