NCAA Basketball: Villanova at Butler Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

After suffering its first loss of the season to Butler over the weekend, Villanova has lost its spot atop the AP poll after a three week run. The Wildcats didn’t fall far though, as they now rank #3 in the country behind fellow one loss teams Michigan State and Duke. Villanova retained one of its first place votes (shout out to Paul Klee), and is still ranked in the Top 5 by most of the AP voters.

The Big East now has two teams in the Top 5 with #5 Xavier moving up a spot, and three teams in the Top 25 with Seton Hall moving up to #21. Their gain was Creighton’s loss, as the Bluejays fell to the “Others Receiving Votes” category with Butler.

Villanova will start their campaign to return to the #1 spot when they take on Marquette this Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.
