Villanova football lands a tight end from the class of 2018, with the commitment of Charlie Gilroy.

Gilroy is out of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill.

Gilroy announced his commitment via Twitter on Jan. 22, and that he will be taking up Villanova’s offer of a preferred walk-on—one that he received earlier this month.

The 6-5, 225-pound tight end picked up his first offer from Indiana State in 2017. Since then, he received a ton of FCS offers and interests with schools like Harvard, Columbia, Lehigh, Dayton, WIU, SIU, San Diego, Army, Lafayette, Butler, and Stetson reaching out. He also received a preferred walk on offer to Fordham on top of the Villanova offer.

Gilroy will have a big impact on both the run game and pass game from the tight end position at Villanova.

His abilities include providing as an exceptional blocker—one that he was able to showcase as a temporary switch to the O-Line this past season—while further aiding as a big target for the quarterback.

By the time he arrives at Villanova’s campus, looking at the tight end position, Ryan Bell would have graduated. Jack Boomer will be a sophomore. Simon Bingelis will be a Junior, while Todd Summers will play his redshirt freshman season.
