Villanova Basketball moves up in the polls

Regardless of where they were ranked, Nova is moving in the right direction.

Happy Tuesday Nova Nation! With Michigan on the horizon, yesterday brought a slew of new polls and rankings for the Wildcats. While those rankings range from the Top 10 out to the teens, they all saw Villanova rise after starting the season 2-0.

Right now the polls have a little more to do with flash than substance. In a few weeks Buffalo will be unranked, a few weeks after that Duke will get knocked out of #1, and by March the entire Top 25 will look much different. But that doesn’t mean being highly ranked has no value.

Villanova has been ranked in the AP Poll’s Top 10 for 50 weeks now, dating back to 2016. To put that into perspective, the second longest active Top 10 streak is Virginia at 14 weeks. Yes, Villanova has been very successful over that span. But so has Gonzaga (7 weeks), Duke (6 weeks), and UNC (3 weeks).

The Wildcats consistent presence in the Top 10 over what’s now a four season span has helped cement them as one of the best teams in the game, and Jay Wright as one of the best coaches. Not only does that help with recruiting for the team, it brings in more fans, increases interest from prospective students, and leads to alumni donations.

But how much longer can this streak last? That’s the question I pose to you today Nova Nation, let’s see what you think.
