Happy Friday Nova Nation! Normally we have our game preview to fill you in on everything you need to know about Nova’s next opponent. But normally that opponent doesn’t have a guy that puts up video game numbers and sets NCAA records just days before they play the Wildcats.
Furman’s Jordan Lyons made 15 of 34 threes on Thursday night, scoring 54 points in the game. That was more than half of his team’s offense as Furman went on to roll North Greenville (a DII school) 107-67 at home. His 15 made threes tied an NCAA record, while his 34 attempts set another.
Lyons only attempted one shot inside the arc (a miss), and added 9 of 12 free throws to put up an unconscious 54 points. This isn’t exactly what Villanova fans wanted to hear just days after a huge loss.
Normally I’d say lightning isn’t going to strike twice, but Josh Williams of Robert Morris also tied the 15 3’s record on Wednesday night. Yes, that actually happened. But seriously, we’re not going to see Lyons put up over 50 on Saturday. The team was actively trying to get him the record, even with the game well in hand. They may as well have been screaming “Boom-Shaka-Laka” after every bucket. That said, the last thing Nova needs to see right now is a hot shooter. The junior is connecting on 41.5% of his bombs this season, and 38.7% before his big night.
We’ll have more on the rest of the team and how they matchup with the Wildcats in today’s preview. Suffice it to say, this isn’t a team Nova can afford to take lightly.
In other “news”, fallout from the Michigan loss, updates on the 2019 class, and some insight on the Wildcats of the NBA. Enjoy!
