Phil Booth and Eric Paschall named to Naismith Watch List

Villanova’s leaders are among the country’s elite.

Happy Season Tip-Off Nova Nation! Your boy will be covering the game tonight, so if you’re in the twitter sphere be sure to keep an eye out. I’ll be posting pictures, videos, updates, and quick takes, along with a final game recap. That’s right, tonight we’ll finally have real Villanova Basketball to argue about in the comments!

But even with the actual season looming, the preseason had one last gift to give. Both 5th year seniors Phil Booth and Eric Paschall have been named to the Naismith Awards Watch List to start the season. Not only is this an incredible honor, but it’s so deserving of two players that have worked their butts off to get where they are now.

Jalen Brunson won this award last season, and it would be HUGE if Booth or Paschall (or both?) could bring the award back to the Main Line. Since the award started in 1969 with Lew Alcindor, only Duke has had two different players named POY in back to back seasons (Battier in ‘01, Williams in ‘02).

A lot of the preseason hype would be on Eric Paschall being Nova’s best chance to win the award. After all, he’s the best NBA prospect on the team right now and he’s shown he can do it before at Fordham where he won Rookie of the Year for the A-10. But you’d be a fool to count out Phil Booth. That said, if Booth wins it’s going to break the comments section in the best way possible.

Here’s to a great season Nova fans! Best of luck to our boys in blue (and white), and let’s get that Championship train rollin’ again!

In other “news”, Villanova’s sophomores are in line for a big year, Nova’s “fab four” are killing it in the NBA, and Jannah Tucker is my new hero. Enjoy!
