Villanova Basketball Recruiting: Jahvon Quinerly commitment primer

Can the Wildcats finish their class with a #bang?

The last remaining piece of the puzzle for Villanova’s 2018 class could fall into place Wednesday with Jahvon Quinerly set to announce his college commitment. Feel free to use this as your open thread leading up to the decision.

Here’s the need to know on Quinerly’s impending commitment.

Time: TBD, Quinerly hasn’t given a time for Wednesday, so this could be something to watch for on Twitter rather than a a ceremony or media event at his high school.

Location: TBD

Live Stream: will be added if/when available

What To Expect: Villanova’s staff identified and prioritized Quinerly early and were thought to be frontrunners for his eventual signature for a long time.

Quinerly took just one official visit to Arizona, which was enough for him to decide that Tucson was the place for him. Enter the FBI, who indicted Arizona assistant coach Book Richardson on federal charges for what was widely perceived as his role in Quinerly’s recruitment.

Quinerly decommitted a few weeks later and hasn’t publicly spoken about his recruitment at all. Meanwhile, Villanova never stopped recruiting him throughout the winter and their loyalty may pay off in the end. Oklahoma, Ohio State and Rutgers were mentioned in his recruitment at varying points, but none seem to be serious players heading into his announcement.

Prediction: There’s been buzz for over a week now that Quinerly is set to commit to Villanova, but this recruitment has been anything but straightforward. I don’t think there are any final twists here, and Villanova land their third Top-50 ‘croot. Quinerly will join Brandon Slater and Cole Swider in a formidable class.
