The Villanova Wildcats have been ranked atop the college basketball world yet again, now putting them in place to break some school records. Villanova has now been ranked #1 for five consecutive weeks, and eight weeks total this season. Both accomplishments tie school records that were set by last year’s squad that secured the #1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

But breaking that record may not be so easy. First, Villanova will face a St. John’s team that’s coming off of a win against then #4 Duke. Then, the cats will face a Butler team that’s beaten them in their last three games. Luckily, both of these games will be at home for the Cats, where they’re undefeated on the season.

For the second time this season, the Big East has two teams ranked in the Top 5. Villanova claimed one of its #1 votes back from Virginia to give them 48 of 65. Xavier moved up to #5 in the poll, but they remain the only two Big East teams currently ranked. Butler, Seton Hall, and Creighton all land in the “Others Receiving Votes” category.
