NCAA Basketball: Big East Conference Tournament Championship-Villanova vs Providence Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Villanova will end the 2018 AP Poll season at #2 behind unanimous #1 Virginia. This is Villanova’s second time finishing the season at #2 in the AP Poll, the first coming in 2015 behind then undefeated Kentucky. It’s the first time a team has finished in the Top 2 in consecutive seasons since Kansas did it in 2010 and 2011.

The Wildcats were ranked in the Top 5 in all but the preseason poll this year, extending their streak of Top 10 appearances to 48 consecutive weeks. That’s the 20th longest streak in AP Poll history, and the Wildcats will have a chance to extend it if they land in the preseason Top 10 next year.

The Big East held onto two of the Top 3 spots in the poll as Xavier also stayed at the #3 spot. Both the polls and the selection committee agreed that the Big East deserved two of the #1 Seeds in this year’s NCAA Tournament. In the “Others Receiving Votes” category we find the other four Big East schools that made the Big Dance: Providence (22), Butler (9), Seton Hall (5), and Creighton (4).
