The Villanova Wildcats used wins over the Seton Hall Pirates and Georgetown Hoyas to hop up to the #2 spot in the newest AP Poll released on Monday. Virginia claimed all 65 1st Place votes in the poll. 35 voters ranked Villanova at #2 and 22 put the ‘Cats at #3.
BIG EAST Regular Season Champions, Xavier came in at #3, with Michigan State and Duke rounding out the Top 5.
The Wildcats’ streak of 17 weeks in the Top 5 is more than double the next highest team on that list (Virginia, 8 weeks).
More good news, their streak of Weeks in the Top 10 is not only the longest active streak, but it’s now tied for the 20th longest streak in the history of the AP Poll. The Wildcats have been ranked in the Top 10 since January 11th, 2016. No other team has maintained an active Top 10 ranking longer than just this season.
The BIG EAST is also represented by Creighton and Seton Hall who are “receiving votes”.
Villanova returns to action on Thursday at 7p, when they will play the winner of Marquette and DePaul in the Quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
