Villanova big man Omari Spellman has been named the BIG EAST’s Freshman of the Year. The 6’9” Spellman lead all conference freshmen in scoring with his 10.9 points per game. He also added 7.8 rebounds per game (4th in the BIG EAST) in his first season on the collegiate court while shooting 43.6% from behind the arc, and tallying 1.5 blocks (2nd in the conference).
He is the third Wildcat to earn the award following in Tim Thomas and Scottie Reynolds’ footsteps.
